Auditing Changes to Contact

Auditing Changes to Contact

The Contact Audit Log is a helpful tool for administrators to track changes made to individual contact records. Whether updates come from internal teams or integrated systems, the audit log provides visibility into when and how a contact’s data was modified—supporting both data hygiene and accountability.

What the Audit Log Shows

When viewing a contact’s audit log, you'll find a chronological list of updates that includes:

  • Date and time of each update
  • Email address of the user who made the change
  • Method of update, such as manually entered, CRM integration, form submission, etc.
  • Custom table name, if the update affected custom relational data
  • Fields updated, with the previous and new values when applicable

This information can help you trace the source of data changes and better understand how your contacts are being updated across systems.

How to Access the Contact Audit Log

  1. From your Contacts dashboard, use the search bar to look up the contact by email address.
  2. Once the record appears, hover over the email address and click Edit.
  3. In the left-hand navigation panel, select Audit Log.

You’ll now see a detailed view of the contact’s recent change history.

Best Practices and Tips

  • Use the audit log to verify the source of unexpected data changes—especially helpful when troubleshooting form behavior or integration syncs.
  • Cross-reference timestamps with campaign activity or CRM logs to identify data patterns.
  • Regularly monitor high-value or sensitive records to ensure updates are occurring as expected.

Practical Use Cases

  • Troubleshooting integrations: A CRM integration updates a contact’s field unexpectedly—you can check if the change originated from that system.
  • Monitoring manual entries: Confirm when a team member manually added or updated a record and which fields were affected.
  • Auditing form submissions: Review data changes tied to form completions, including what data was passed in and from which form.
