Can I setup tracking for anchors?

How to Track Anchor Links in Email Templates

By default, anchor links (which jump to a section within the same email) are not trackable in Delivra. However, you can work around this limitation by linking to the online version of your email and appending the anchor tag manually. This method allows you to track clicks on anchor links in your campaign reports.

Why Tracking Anchor Links Requires Extra Steps

  • Anchors don’t trigger a page load, so they aren’t captured by standard link tracking.

  • The hash fragment (#anchor) is not sent to the server, which means it's not trackable by default.

  • By pointing users to the online version of the email plus the anchor, you can create a fully qualified link that’s trackable.

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Start with a Template

  • Navigate to Assets > Templates.

  • Create a new template or open an existing draft.

  • Design your email and Save.

2. Get the Online Version Link

  • Return to the Assets page.

  • Hover over the template name and click the Edit drop-down.

  • Choose Online Version.

  • In the new browser tab that opens, copy the full URL from the address bar and paste it into a Notepad or text file for later use.

3. Insert the Anchor in Your Template

  • Reopen your template in Edit mode.

  • Place your anchor before the content you want the link to jump to (e.g., a section header or image).

4. Link to the Anchor

  • Highlight the text or image you want to serve as the clickable anchor link.

  • Choose Insert Hyperlink and set the Hyperlink Type to “Anchor”.

  • Select the correct anchor name from the dropdown.

  • Copy the anchor link that appears (e.g., #section1) and save it in Notepad.

5. Convert to a Trackable Link

  • While still in the Insert Hyperlink window:

    • Switch the Hyperlink Type back to “Normal”.

    • Paste the previously copied Online Version URL into the Web Address field.

    • Add the anchor to the end of that URL (e.g., https://yourlink.com/onlineversion#section1).

  • Assign a Link Reporting Name so that clicks on this link are clearly labeled in your campaign reports.

  • Click Insert.

6. Repeat for Additional Anchors

  • Follow steps 3 through 5 for each additional anchor in your content file.

7. Finalize Before Creating a Campaign

  • Finish editing and complete the template before adding it to the Campaigns dashboard to start your campaign workflow.

Notes and Limitations

  • Do not edit anchor links later—doing so can strip out the online version URL and require you to repeat the entire process.

  • Clickstream and Google Analytics tracking are not supported for these links, because the online version URL does not contain memberguid or list ID.

  • Assigning a Link Reporting Name is essential, since the anchor portion (#section1) of the URL cannot be tracked directly.
