Configure Default Mapping for Imports (SFTP, CSV)

Configure Default Mapping for Imports (SFTP, CSV)

Info

Please note this feature is only available in Legacy for now, but it is coming to Air soon!

The Import Files & Field Mappings feature helps streamline your contact data management by letting you pre-define how CSV files are imported into your account. If you regularly upload contacts using the same file format, this tool can significantly reduce setup time and ensure consistent data handling.

Practical Use Cases

  • Automated Import from SFTP: Automatically import files from your system by sending files to Delivra SFTP and having it import to your account without any manual effort.

  • Streamlined Imports: Create dedicated mappings for regular file imports so Delivra can automatically map the fields for you.

  • Data Consistency: Reduce risk of error by ensuring all fields are mapped consistently for all of your common imports

How It Works

When you upload a CSV file, Delivra automatically checks for a matching Import Name—the label you give your saved mapping settings. If it finds a match, your predefined field mappings and import rules will be applied, eliminating the need for manual setup.

You can create mappings for both Email and SMS imports and configure detailed import behavior, including how existing contact records are handled and which categories contacts are added to.

Steps to Create a Field Mapping

  1. Go to the Contacts dashboard.

  2. In the left menu, click Configuration.

  3. Select the Import Files & Field Mappings tile.

  4. Click Create Field Mapping.

  5. Choose between Email or SMS import.

  6. Upload a sample CSV file

  7. Assign an Upload Name that matches your typical file name (e.g., "Daily Import").

  8. Click Next to map the CSV columns to your account fields.

  9. Confirm whether to update existing contact records or only import new ones.

  10. For each row, map the CSV column (left) to the corresponding field (right) and check the Update box if existing data should be overwritten.

  11. Click Next to define import processing rules:

    • Report held and unsubscribed: Enables visibility into contacts who won’t be reactivated.

      Notes
We highly recommend having this option checked as it helps identify any potential issues with your imports in the future.

    • Create New Category: Automatically builds a new category each time the file is imported.

    • Assign Categories: Select one or more existing categories for imported contacts.

  12. Click Save to finalize your setup.

Best Practices & Tips

  • Keep your file names consistent with the Upload Name to ensure the correct mapping is applied during future imports.

  • Review field mappings periodically to ensure they reflect any changes in your contact data structure.

  • Use categories strategically to group contacts by source, import type, or campaign purpose.

  • When importing existing contacts, keep the "Update" checkbox selected to ensure fresh data is applied.

Additional Notes

  • This feature supports file imports in the Delivra app as well. You can use this setting to have Delivra automatically map files you frequently import for a faster process.

  • Only the fields you map will be updated or created—unmapped columns are ignored during import.
