Deleting a Segment

Deleting a Segment

Segment cleanup is an important part of keeping your contact database organized. If you’ve got segments that are no longer in use, but you want to keep the associated contacts, you can delete the segment itself without impacting your contact records.

This guide walks you through how to remove segments safely, with a few tips to avoid impacting your reporting or automations.

How to Delete a Segment

Follow these steps to delete a segment from your account:

  1. Go to the Contacts dashboard.
  2. Select Segments from the left-hand navigation.
  3. Find the segment you’d like to delete and hover over it.
  4. Click the Edit drop-down that appears on the right.
  5. Choose Delete from the menu.

Important Notes

  • Deleting a segment (or tag) only removes the query logic. It does not delete any contacts associated with it. Those contacts will remain in your database.
  • Check for recent campaign usage. If the segment was used in a recent campaign, deleting it may cause issues in your reporting. In this case, you’ll see an warning message. If reporting is not a concern, you can proceed past the warning.
