How to Add Image Captions Using Cell Groups

Sometimes you need to pair an image with a short caption—whether it’s to describe a product, quote a testimonial, or provide context for event photos. Delivra’s drag-and-drop editor doesn’t include a dedicated “caption” block, but you can easily create this look using Cell Groups.

Why Use Cell Groups?

Cell Groups let you combine multiple content types—like images and text—into a structured layout that you can customize. By setting up a vertical (stacked) layout, you can make your image and caption look clean and cohesive.

Step-by-Step: Creating an Image with a Caption

  1. Add a New Content Section

    • In your email layout, drag a new content section into the desired position.

    • Set the content type to Cell Group.

  2. Configure the Cell Group Layout

    • Edit the Cell Group to use a 1 column x 2 row format.

    • This gives you one cell on top and one below—perfect for image over caption.

  3. Assign Content to Each Cell

    • Top Cell: Set as an Image content type. Insert your desired image.

    • Bottom Cell: Set as a Text content type. Type or paste your caption here.

  4. Style the Cells

    • Click into each cell and use Cell Style options to adjust:

      • Alignment (centered or left-aligned captions)

      • Padding (to control spacing between image and text)

      • Font and color settings for your caption text

This method allows for consistent formatting and keeps your captions properly connected to their images.

Best Practices and Tips

  • Keep captions short: Aim for one sentence or less for easy readability.

  • Use matching alignment: Align both image and caption (e.g., centered) for a balanced look.

  • Adjust padding sparingly: Too much spacing can separate the caption from the image visually.
