What is an automated welcome campaign?

This type of campaign can be configured in your account to send automatically when specified. This type of email is sent to new contacts and is typically the first contact between you & a new subscriber.

How are automated welcome messages sent?

Welcome campaigns can be configured to send in a variety of ways:

  • Form submission—There are settings in forms that dictate how subscribers are handled. If you have an automated welcome that should be sent when your form is submitted, you will need to assign your automated message to the form. Open your form in the editor and navigate to the Info tab (right side). Choose the type of automated message from the "Automated Sign Up Message" drop-down.
  • CSV import—In the CSV import process there is a section called Define Import Rules. Open the "Import Action" drop-down menu and select "Import as regular contacts and send hello message" if you want your automated welcome message to be sent to new email addresses being imported. 
  • API—A contact status of needs-hello can be sent with the call to add a new contact & send a welcome messages configured in your account. 

How-to create an automated welcome campaign

Much of the campaign creation process will be similar to that of a regular campaign, but there are a few distinct differences that we will outline in this article.

  1. Campaign Type—In the Setup step, click to select "Automated Email" for the Campaign Type, then click "Welcome" under "What type of automated email are you sending?".


  2. Segments—Automated emails like welcome messages do not have segments or tags assigned. The Contacts step is removed from the workflow altogether when the campaign type is selected to be a welcome.

  3. Sending—Automated welcome campaigns are not scheduled or sent manually, they are only activated. When activated, they can be sent through the various ways outlined in this article above. In the Activate step of the campaign workflow, change the status to Running and click the "Save" button.

How do I send my automated welcome message to contacts when I import a CSV file?

1. Navigate to the Contacts dashboard and select All Contacts.
2. Choose "Import Contacts" (top-right)
3. Choose your option of Email or SMS and select "Browse Files" to browse to your desktop > Find your .CSV file > click "Next".
4, Match your CSV file columns listed in the Map Data section to the database fields.
5.  In the Import Rules section, Use the Import Action drop-down, select "Import as regular contacts, and send hello" (This action sends the new contacts a hello message.)


9. Click "Import".
