Using the IN Tag and NOT IN Tag clauses

Using the IN Tag and NOT IN Tag clauses

Segmenting your audience is a key strategy for sending relevant content. In Delivra, you can use the segment builder to identify contacts who are not in a single tag or even not in multiple tags. This is especially useful for quality control and ensuring no contacts fall through the cracks.

Below, we’ll walk through both scenarios using the “Regular” segment type.

Find Contacts Not in a Single Tag

  1. Navigate to the Contacts dashboard.
  2. Select Segments from the left-hand menu.
  3. Click Create Email Segment in the top right corner of the Segment dashboard.
  4. In the pop-up, choose the Regular segment type.
  5. Enter a name for your new segment and, optionally, a description.
  6. In the segment builder, click the Select field dropdown.
  7. Scroll to the Groups section.
  8. Choose the clause Not in Tag.
  9. Make sure the operator is set to A selected Tag.
  10. In the third clause box, select the single tag your contacts should not be in.
  11. Click Save & Test to save and preview your results.

Find Contacts Not in Multiple Tags

  1. From the Segments page, click Create Email Segment.
  2. Choose the Regular segment type.
  3. Enter a name and optionally a description.
  4. In the segment builder, open the Select field dropdown.
  5. Scroll to the Groups section.
  6. Choose the clause Not in Tag.
  7. Set the operator to All selected Tags.
  8. In the third clause box, select all Tags your contacts should not be in.
  9. Click Save & Test to see the results.

Tip

Using the "Not in all selected tags" option is a great way to locate contacts who may not be subscribed to any of your active tags. This can help ensure no audience is unintentionally excluded from campaigns.

Notes on Operators

  • A selected tag: Matches contacts who are or are not in any of the selected tags. Think of it like an OR condition.
  • All selected tags: Matches contacts who are or are not in every selected tag. Think of it like an AND condition.
