Why can't image files in the media library be moved into folders?

Why can't image files in the media library be moved into folders?

When you upload images or media files into Delivra’s Media Library, they are automatically assigned a hosted file path. This hosted path allows the file to be displayed in emails and landing pages sent to your recipients.

How Hosted Paths Work

  • A hosted path (URL) is created immediately upon upload.
  • This URL is what your emails reference to display the image or media file correctly to subscribers.

Because email clients retrieve your images using this hosted path, it's essential that the path remains stable and unchanged after upload.

Important: Media Files Cannot Be Moved After Upload

Moving an image or media file after uploading would cause the hosted file path to break. This would result in:

  • Broken images in sent emails
  • Non-functioning hyperlinks to hosted media
  • A poor subscriber experience

To prevent this:

  • You cannot move images or files into a folder after uploading.
  • Folder placement must be selected during the file upload process.

If you need an image organized into a specific folder, make sure to upload it directly into the desired folder.

Best Practices and Tips

  • Organize first: Set up your folder structure before uploading new files to keep your Media Library tidy.
  • Label carefully: Use clear, descriptive file names and folder names to easily find what you need later.
  • Re-upload if necessary: If a file was uploaded to the wrong place and must be moved, delete the original file and re-upload it into the correct folder.
