Changing the Status of Contacts

Changing the Status of Contacts

Sometimes, contacts need to be resubscribed due to an accidental unsubscribe or removed due to lack of engagement. In Delivra, you can change the status of contacts either manually or in bulk via an import:

Manually Changing Contact Status

You can manually change the status of contacts by editing their contact profile. On their profile, scroll down to the Contact Information section and find the Contact Status box. Click on the drop-down field and select the contact's new status. Finally, click the blue Save and exit button at the bottom of your screen.

Changing Contact Status in Bulk

If you have a large number of Normal status contacts that need to be marked as Held, Unsubscribed, or Expired, then you can use a CSV import to update all of your contacts at once. You will need to prepare a CSV file to import with, at minimum, the following fields:
  1. Email Address: This column is for the email addresses of all contacts that you are updating in this import
  2. Contact Status: This column is for the new status for the contact that you are updating. You will fill this column with one (or more) of the following values:
    1. unsub: This will set the contact to Unsubscribed status
    2. held: This will mark the contact as Held
    3. expired: This will mark the contact as Expired
You can include other fields if you like, but for simplicity we recommend only including these two fields. An example file is included in this article to help you get started. Once you have your file, you can follow our guide to importing to start the import process. The main factors to remember are to ensure that Email Address and Contact Status fields are mapped properly and that "use contact status in CSV file" is selected as the import action. Both of these should happen by default, but it is always good to check.

That's it! Your contacts will be updated soon.

Things to know

  1. Only contacts in Normal and Expired statuses can be updated via bulk import. For this reason, it is not possible to bulk update Held and Unsubscribed statuses back to Normal status.
  2. We highly recommend using the Expired status when moving your unengaged contacts out of Normal status. The Expired status is the only status besides Normal that can be bulk updated, meaning you can easily move them back to Normal status in the future if needed.
  3. Held and Unsubscribed contacts can only be updated manually.
